Handling a TM6
What is Guided Cooking?
The Guided Cooking is a levelled-up device that will help your cooking experience to be better and easier than ever before. Simply select a recipe and follow the step-by-step instructions on the display, with predefined times, temperatures and speeds for each step. Your Thermomix will advise you on when to add which ingredient to the bowl and when you complete a step, simply press “Next” for the following step. So, even if you are new to it, you will surely feel confident enough to prepare any recipe.
When it’s time to weight an ingredient, the scales switch on automatically. The Thermomix will inform you of the temperature to cook at and how long to stir your food for. Guided Cooking will be your best assistant in the kitchen. All recipes on Cookidoo have Guided Cooking to lead you through the recipes. All High Heat mode recipes can only be done in Guided Cooking.
How does the Slow Cooking Mode work on the Thermomix TM6?
Prepare heavenly pulled pork in your Thermomix TM6 with the Slow Cooking mode. Cook up to 800g of meat on low temperature (top temperature is 98 degrees) for a minimum of one (1) hour up to a maximum of eight (8) hours. Slow cooking will help tenderise and bring out the flavour of less-expensive cuts of meat for delicious one pot meals, soups, curries, stews and casseroles. The blades start in reverse for a set amount of time and then alternate between reverse, 1 minute, stand 1 minute for the remainder of the recipe.
How does the Sugar mode work on the Thermomix TM6?
Make amazing caramel flavours and crunchy honey comb in your Thermomix TM6. Sugar mode is available on the specific recipes using the Guided Cooking method
How does the high temperature mode work on the Thermomix TM6?
Make browning meat and creating sensational caramel flavours part of your Thermomix cuisine. The Thermomix TM6 gives you precise control when you select temperatures between 37°C and 120°C. Higher temperatures are available within specific recipes using Guided Cooking.
Does the Thermomix have frying/browning capabilities?
The Thermomix TM6 can heat up to 160°C to enable stir and fry meat or onions, for example. This is using the High Temperature mode and can only be done in guided cooking.
Can I make yoghurt in the Thermomix TM6?
Yes, there is a Fermentation Mode in your TM6.
How does the Sous Vide mode work on the Thermomix TM6?
Use Sous Vide in the simmering basket up to 300g of meat or vegetables for a minimum of 30 min and a maximum of 12 hours. This way you can make your meat or vegetables perfectly tender.
Are the TM5 and TM6 mixing bowls the same size?
Just like the TM5, the TM6 mixing bowl has a capacity of 2.2L. The TM6 bowl cannot be used with the TM5 or vice-versa.
Can I use the Thermomix TM6 for frying purposes?
No. The Thermomix TM6 is not designed for making popcorn or for deep-frying food. The TM6 offers the benefits of both manual and guided cooking, however, the High Temperature mode is only available in guided cooking for your safety when cooking with high heat. By using the pre-programmed time, temperature and speed on the TM6, you can enjoy cooking recipes specifically developed by our Recipe Development team in accordance with Vorwerk’s safety guidelines. You can still manually cook recipes on the TM6 using all other available temperatures.
Can I view my next steps in the recipe I am following while waiting for the current step to finish?
Yes, on your Thermomix screen click on “…” next to the “Next” button, select “Recipe details” and you can have a look at an overview of all steps of the current recipe (scroll down to see all details). If you click on any step in this list, you will return to your current cooking step.
Is Internet Connection required to use the Thermomix TM6?
The TM6 can be used without an internet connection, however, you will need an internet connection to access Cookidoo and perform software updates. Once you have synchronised your bookmarks and recipe lists from Cookidoo, your TM6 can be used offline.
How can I get connect the Thermomix TM6 to Cookidoo?
On your Thermomix, go to Settings and find your Cookidoo profile, then log in with your Cookidoo log-in details. The TM6 will automatically synchronise with your Cookidoo account.
When you first connect your Thermomix with your Cookidoo account, you'll need to allow your device some time to synchronise. Large amounts of recipes can take up to 15-20 minutes. You cannot add your TM6 device to your Cookidoo profile online or via the Cookidoo website.
Can I switch accounts on the TM6?
Yes, as long as your friend has logged out of their Cookidoo account on the Thermomix TM6 screen a new user can then log in to a different Cookidoo account via the screen of the TM6. Important to note is that when you log out of your Cookidoo account all lists and bookmarks from that Cookidoo account will be deleted on the TM6 appliance, but not from your Cookidoo account. The TM6 appliance will immediately sync bookmarks and collections to the TM6 appliance related to whichever Cookidoo account has been logged into. Recently cooked recipes will not be saved on the device.
Can I connect more than one Cookidoo account to my Thermomix TM6?
Only one Cookidoo account can be linked to a Thermomix TM6 at any one time. To switch between Cookidoo accounts on your TM6, first log out and disconnect the TM6 from your Cookidoo profile. Please note that when you log out all the bookmarks and recipe lists from your profile will be deleted from the device. You can then log in with another profile.
Whenever you wish to switch accounts, you have to log out of the active account and delete it from the TM6. You can then log in with a different account. The TM6 will immediately synchronise and your lists and favourites will be back.
How long will the history of my recipes research be saved for in my Thermomix TM6, with or without a Wi-Fi Connection?
Recipes already synced to the Thermomix TM6 will stay on the device and can be cooked for 30 days without sync. Then a new sync is necessary. The TM6 Basic Cookbook recipes will be pre-programmed into your TM6 and will not be affected by the Wi-Fi connection or syncing.
What cook books come with the Thermomix TM6?
The Thermomix TM6 comes with a paperbook version of The Basic Cookbook (TM6 edition) containing 120 recipes that are also pre-programmed into your TM6 that allow you to access Guided Cooking directly on the touch screen of your Thermomix.
How should I clean the display and housing of my Thermomix?
First step is to disconnect your appliance from its main power supply. Second step is to clean the display and main appliance in the same way by wiping them with a soft cloth and a gentle cleaning product. Use your watered cloth carefully to prevent any dirt from entering the inside of the appliance. Never use sharp tools or harsh cleaning liquids/spray.
Can I change the display on the Thermomix TM6 to my liking?
Yes, you can change the contrast and brightness of the display on your Thermomix TM6 under the main menu under “Settings” and then “Display”.
How can I change the volume and length of the end of the program alarm on my Thermomix TM6?
You can change the volume and length of the program alarm on your Thermomix TM6 on the main menu under 'Settings'.
To set the volume, duration and melody of the sound that is made at the end of the cooking process you can do this under the 'Ringtone' menu. The duration of the finishing sound can be limited to 3 repetitions.
You can also set the volume of the Next button on the display.
How can I use reverse mode and where is it in my Thermomix TM6?
To activate the reverse knife movement, briefly tap the speed dial.
You can reverse the direction of the mixing knife at any speed. The reverse operation at a low speed is intended for gently stirring delicate food and not to be chopped. To do this:
1. Tap the speed dial to switch the direction of the mixing knife from forward (clockwise) to reverse (counter-clockwise). The counter-clockwise direction is indicated by the reverse symbol on the speed dial.
2. To change back to clockwise direction, tap the reverse symbol again, or wait until the set time has expired and the rotation is automatically set back to the forward knife movement.
What is the Varoma temperature and where can I find it?
Varoma is a special setting for steam cooking. You can adjust your temperature setting on the display via the temperature selector. The maximum temperature on the Varoma setting is 120°C. The exact temperature depends on the ingredients you use. Just remember that on the Varoma steam cooking setting, 250 ml of water or water-based liquids will evaporate within 15 minutes. The maximum speed setting you can use with Varoma steam cooking is level 6. The heating function automatically deactivates at level 6.5.
Can I transport my Thermomix TM6? If so, how?
Transportation mode allows you to secure the mixing bowl and lid with the locking arms if you need to transport your appliance.
1. Make sure the mixing bowl and the lid are correctly inserted into the base unit.
2. Select Main Menu > Transportation mode and activate the mode using the slide control.
3. The locking mechanism is then activated. You can then switch off your Thermomix TM6 and transport it safely.
Is it possible to convert my conventional recipes into Thermomix recipes?
Yes, converting recipes is easy! Find a Thermomix recipe that is similar to the one you want to convert (either on Cookidoo or Recipe Community). Following the safety instructions in your Thermomix manual, adjust the quality or quantity of ingredients and the cooking time as needed for your recipe. Adapt the steps as needed and make notes along the way of what works and what doesn't. It might take a couple of attempts to get it right, so don't worry if it doesn't work perfectly on the first try! Where can I find information about my Thermomix TM6 specificities, like software version and serial number?
To check the serial number and the software version of your Thermomix TM6 click on the 3-stripe field on your screen. This will open a list of menu options. Select 'Settings' from the menu and then select 'Thermomix version and update' to get your serial number and software version. You can also find the serial number printed on the type plate below the upper housing on your Thermomix.
Am I able to get a full view of my recipe and its steps before starting to cook?
Yes, after you have selected a recipe on the Thermomix TM6, simply scroll down and you will see all the information you need about ingredients and steps of the recipe.
Can I change the temperature indicator from Celsius to Fahrenheit?
Yes, you can change your temperature preferences by going to “Settings” and changing the temperature to your liking.
Changing the temperature in your settings does not change the temperature or measuring settings of the recipe. If you choose to cook a recipe that uses Celsius temperatures, you won’t be able to change it to Fahrenheit.
What accessories form the Thermomix TM5 and TM6 are compatible?
Thermomix TM6 accessories like the knife and bowl are not compatible with the TM5 and vice versa. The bowls for each device can be inserted into the other, but you won’t be able to cook with the wrong bowl and you will receive a system error message.
The splash guard, measuring cup, basket, lid, butterfly whisk and Varoma can be used in either the TM5 or the TM6.
My spices have left a stain on my Thermomix, how can I remove it?
Some ingredients such as turmeric, carrots, tomatoes, etc. may stain plastic. To avoid these kinds of stains, you need to wipe any coloured food off the plastic parts as quickly as possible. The majority of other discolouration will disappear automatically over time, you can also put the stained parts in direct sunlight can help with this.
Can I wash my Thermomix TM6 in the dishwasher?
Yes, all Thermomix accessories are dishwasher safe.
Whether you’re washing it by hand or in the dishwasher, always disassemble your mixing bowl first. Dry it thoroughly, being careful with the pins on the bottom, before re-assembling it for use.
